CP Angle Brain Tumor Surgery: Inside a Modern Neurosurgical Operating Theatre

Watch on YouTube ↗

Prof. Dr. A. F. M. Momtazul Haque often says that every kind of modern neurosurgical operation is now done in Bangladesh, and that there is no longer any need to go abroad. In this video he takes viewers into the place where those operations happen — the operating theatre.

What a modern neurosurgical theatre needs

  • A modular OT where all disinfection procedures are carried out properly
  • A skilled neuro-anaesthetist — the patient is operated on under general anaesthesia, so expert anaesthesia is essential
  • A neuro-microscope — the most essential instrument
  • A neuro-endoscope, and a C-arm to check screw position during spine operations

Among Dhaka’s neurosurgical centres, Aurora Specialized Hospital has already become known as a neurosurgical centre, with a good theatre, skilled staff and modern equipment to keep patients safe.

The case: a CP angle tumor

The patient in this video has a cerebellopontine (CP) angle tumor — a tumor behind the ear. Because of it the patient cannot hear on that side and, as it progressed, has also developed difficulty with vision. The video shows the brain MRI with the tumor and the equipment used to remove it.

CP angle tumors such as vestibular schwannoma (acoustic neuroma) are usually benign, and with microsurgery in an equipped theatre the results are good.
