Problems of the blood vessels inside the head and congenital conditions in children are also treated surgically in Bangladesh today.
Conditions treated
- Aneurysm: surgery when a blood vessel in the brain bulges or bursts
- Bypass surgery when blood flow to the brain is reduced
- Hydrocephalus (water collecting in the head) — endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) or a shunt
- Other congenital defects of the head and spine in children
In children, repeated vomiting that does not stop with medicine for two or three months can be the only sign of a problem inside the head — a brain scan should be done.
